Samsung Testing Its Android Go Phone In New Markets: Report

It seems like Samsung is testing its very own Android Go smartphone, at least according to the info provided by SamMobile. Following four countries on the Indian subcontinent, India, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, the company’s Android Go smartphone is also being tested in a number of other countries all over the globe, including countries in Europe, Latin America, and Asia.

The Samsung SM-J260F is being tested in United Kingdom, Uzbekistan, Caucasus Countries, Germany, Italy, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, France, and Poland. The SM-J260M, on the other hand, Samsung is testing in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Trinidad and Tobago, Peru, Panama, and Paraguay. Finally, the SM-J260G is being tested in Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Samsung is quite probably trying to find out if there’s any demand for a Galaxy-branded smartphone which is running Google’s stock software, in this case, Android Go edition of Google’s UI. Having said that, this handset, if it ever becomes a reality, will be extremely affordable, and chances are it will ship with only 1GB of RAM. Android Go is stock Android, but it’s much lighter than regular software from Google, and is made especially for entry-level devices which come with 1GB of RAM or less. Android Go comes with a number of Google-made apps which are adapted for this version of Android, including Google Maps Go, YouTube Go, Gmail Go, and so on.

This is actually not the first time that we’re hearing about the company’s Android Go smartphone, as the device was benchmarked by Geekbench about two months ago. That listing caught the Samsung SM-J260G in action, and it reported that the device comes with 1GB of RAM, and at the time, Android 8.1 Oreo. A 64-bit quad-core processor was also mentioned in the listing, and the device managed to score 625 points in the single-core benchmark, and 1,747 in the multi-core test. It is still unknown when Samsung may introduce its Android Go smartphone, but judging by the amount of markets the company is testing the phone in, and the fact that the device has been in development for quite some time now, we may see it hit the market in the near future, presuming Samsung opts to release it, of course.
