As part of its expansion to international markets, the Vivo X21 UD with an under-display fingerprint scanner will be launched in India over the coming weeks, PhoneRadar reports, claiming the handset will cost Rs. 34,990 ($520) at its launch in the country. Vivo has initially announced a pair of Vivo X21 devices, one with an under-display fingerprint reader and another one that lacks it. The Chinese company will launch only the former variant in India which will be simply called the Vivo X21, sans the ‘UD’ moniker. No firm release date has yet been attached to the smartphone’s supposed Indian debut, with insiders only claiming the device will be announced in the South Asian country by the end of the month.
Earlier this year, Vivo became the first manufacturer to deliver a smartphone with an under-display fingerprint scanner, having launched it in the form of the Vivo X20 Plus UD. It remained exclusive to the Chinese market during its short lifespan and was replaced with the Vivo X21 UD within a couple of months. Singapore recently became the first market outside of China where the X21 was launched and rumors claimed it will arrive in India next, with its availability window being pegged for early June. The handset follows a design language that is similar to most modern smartphones launched in recent times, including a notched display and a glass back. The biggest selling point of the mobile device – the under-display fingerprint scanner – is placed under the lower half of its display, ensuring easy access for the users.
The Vivo X21 was introduced in China sporting a 6.28-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2,280 x 1,080 pixels with a 19:9 aspect ratio. A Qualcomm-made Snapdragon 660 chip fuels the smartphone, together with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of on-board flash memory. Of the two rear-placed cameras, the primary one includes a 12-megapixel sensor and an f/1.8 lens, being paired with another 5-megapixel (f/2.4) camera. A 12-megapixel (f/2.0) camera is available on the front of the device. A 3,200mAh battery is a part of the package as well and comes with fast charging support. The dual-SIM phone comes pre-loaded with Android 8.1 Oreo-based Funtouch OS 4.0.
