Samsung is reportedly preparing to announce four new Galaxy J-series smartphones later this month, with the South Korean tech giant primarily aiming its upcoming Android offerings at India. The new Galaxy J (2018) lineup is said to consist of several Infinity Display-equipped devices and mark yet another milestone for the company’s elongated mobile screens; following the debut of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus flagships in early 2017, Samsung brought the 18.5:9 aspect ratio to the Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8 Plus late last year, with the unique modules now also being set to trickle down to the firm’s entry-level products.
The four models meant to be launched in the South Asian country will all reportedly be advertised as yet another result of the “Make in India” initiative that New Delhi has been promoting for years now as part of its efforts to boost the local economy and decrease its reliance on imports, particularly in the consumer electronics segment. While the devices are now expected to be assembled in the country, Samsung is still likely to import the majority of their components from its factories in Vietnam and other Far Eastern countries. The Galaxy J6 (2018) may also end up shipping with a physical Bixby button, according to previous leaks, with the rest of the lineup also being said to include the Galaxy J4.
Samsung commercialized the Galaxy J7 Duo in India last month, having released it at the equivalent of $250, with the company now being adamant to provide local consumers with even more budget-conscious options in order to fight off the growing threat represented by Xiaomi. The Seoul-based tech giant already decided on its new strategy last year and is expected to release at least half a dozen other value-oriented models in India over the second half of the year. While heavily challenged in the local entry-level and mid-range segments, Samsung is still the most dominant flagship phone brand in India, according to numerous industry trackers. The company’s next high-end offering will debut in late summer in the form of the Android-powered Galaxy Note 9, as per recent reports.
