A report surfaced recently, accusing OnePlus of sending data to Chinese servers, but the company has released a statement denying such claims. A similar report surfaced quite recently, but it turned out to be fake, which seems to be the case with this one as well. A report that surfaced recently claimed that the company’s OxygenOS Clipboard app has been sending data back to Chinese servers, but according to the company’s statement, that’s not the case, OnePlus says that the code that can be connected with such operations is completely inactive in the Open Beta version of OxygenOS, so the data is not being sent to Chinese servers.
Now, in its statement, OnePlus also touched on HydrogenOS, its operating system for the Chinese market. OnePlus said that the identified folder exists ‘in order to filter out what data to not upload’, while the company also said that local data in that folder is skipped over and not sent to any server either, so the company basically denied accusations altogether, both when it comes to OxygenOS and HydrogenOS. Do keep in mind that this statement comes from the company, and has been shared by XDA Developers, after the site reached out to OnePlus for a comment on a recent accusation. Some of you may recall that OnePlus had been accused of collecting personal data back in October, soon after the company defended its policy, and has promised changes.
Now, the company also had some security issues lately, as OnePlus confirmed that credit card info of up to 40,000 of its customers has been hacked due to a security breach. These are certainly bad news for the company, but there’s definitely a lesson to be learned here. OnePlus has been at the center of attention lately, for both right and wrong reasons. Aside from all the negative stuff that we’ve mentioned, the company has been releasing updates at a fast pace, while the same can be said for variants of its OnePlus 5T flagship, as we’ve not only seen a Lava Red variant of the device, while the company also released a Star Wars edition of the phone, and the Sandstone White OnePlus 5T model lately. The OnePlus 6 was rumored to arrive at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, but that won’t happen it seems, the company will launch the device at the end of Q2 this year, according to Pete Lau.
