Aura Home Monitoring System Now Available For $199

The Aura home monitoring system, the latest offering from Cognitive Systems Corp, is now available for purchase. This device uses wireless signals to identify movements inside the house, unlike other home monitoring systems that use heat and light to keep track of movements inside the house. The manufacturer claims that wireless signals are far more effective and reliable for tracking and monitoring motion compared to heat and light. Aside from simply tracking movements inside the home, Aura can be used to turn smart lights on or operate other smart appliances through its integration with IFTTT. Support for Philips Hue will come at a later date, the company claims on its website. The product also takes advantage of machine learning to filter out movements made by pets.

The manufacturer has also released the Aura Home smartphone app, a software that permits users to control the monitoring system. Through the app, users may watch both live and historical motion, which can be played back in either 12-hour or weekly views. The app can reveal in which room of the house did the movement occur, although this functionality will require the installation of three additional accessory beacons. The application receives the notifications sent by the monitoring system, and it also provides instructions on how to set up the home monitoring system for the first time. Homeowners may select among five scenes in order to modify how the notifications are received. For example, the users may choose the home scene when residents are inside the house while the away mode can be selected when no one is in the home. The pet scene, which allows the user to observe pets when everybody is away, is currently in beta although future updates will certainly improve this option. Aside from the app, homeowners can also change scenes either through Amazon Alexa or Google Home.

The Aura home monitoring system is now available for purchase through the product’s official website, although it will soon be available on Amazon as well. The Aura starter kit, which costs $199, contains one hub and one beacon, and it can sufficiently cover houses and apartments that are less than 700 square feet in size. Each accessory beacon, on the other hand, costs $99. The manufacturer recommends that the homeowners purchase one additional accessory beacon if their house is around 1,500 square feet in size. Meanwhile, those who live in houses that are at least 2,500 square foot or more in size should purchase three more additional beacons.

UPDATE: it seems like Aura is now available on Amazon as well, ahead of time, links have been included down below.
