It’s been almost 6 months since Paul and I moved to Portland, Oregon and we’ve had a lot of visitors to our new home in our new city. My sister and Paul’s parents have already been through to see our place.

We’re expecting more visitors and guests over the holidays and then my parents are coming to visit for two weeks in January! Since we live in a small loft-style apartment in the city, we have to be super-efficient with our space and try to keep our one bathroom as sparkling and zen as possible for ourselves and for our rotating roster of guests.

So what do you do when you have one tiny bathroom and you’re short on space?

You need to get organized and find bathroom solutions that work for you. Our bathroom lacks a lot of shelving. We have lots of open space under the sink and can use the cupboard doors for storage as well. If you’re in the same boat as me, here’s are my top 5 easy bathroom storage solutions:

1) Dedicated Storage for your Hair Dryer

My hair dryer takes up a ton of space. If you have cupboard doors, I suggest hanging an over-the-door hook where you can stick your dryer away after every use. No drawer? Store it away in a pretty basket or cloth bag, like you see in fancy hotel rooms. Try a hair dryer with a retractable cord to save on time and space – it also looks neater too!

2) Over-the-Door Racks

Get to a storage organization store and purchase a hang over-the-door rack to store all the bottles of product you use on a regular basis. Make it easy for you to grab what you need and slide it right back when you’re done.

3) Use Clear Plastic Shoeboxes

We have a big open space under our sink, so I bought a pair of clear see-through plastic shoebox drawers to stash away anything that wouldn’t fit into my over-the-door rack. The first one holds hair items like my flat iron, hairspray and curling iron.

The second one is for random things like soap, nail stuff and anything that else that was small or didn’t fit upright on my over-the-door rack. These boxes were fairly inexpensive and they are clear so you can easily see what’s inside. The drawers slide open and close easily so there’s no fussing with a lid.

4) Pretty Basket for Toilet Paper Storage

Instead of just tossing all my toilet paper under the sink and having them knock over, I bought a cute little metal basket to store away extra rolls. It just makes the area under the sink look more organized.

5) Create Oveflow Space in a Closet

At some point, I had to acknowledge that I didn’t have enough bathroom storage – but I had a huge closet. I created a small overflow area to store extra boxes of tissues, extra toilet paper and other occasional items I didn’t need everyday.

I also make a point of only buying what I need and stopped storing away extra products. If I’m almost 80% through a product, I’ll put it on my shopping list and make sure to pick it up next time I’m at the store.
