For an “industrial precinct,” as the National Archives of Australia described this section of Canberra at the time of this June 1956 photo, Lonsdale Street looks fairly active with non-industrial folks going about their daily business. It also looks freshly laid out, like an insta-town just carved from the land surrounding the capital and seeded with fresh-faced settlers and their newly purchased cars. What do you see here?
