While we’re still about a month away from seeing the handset launch, the OnePlus 3 is becoming a familiar item in the daily news cycle. OnePlus’ next flagship is appearing in rumors and leaks with increasing frequency. Most recently, potential RAM and pricing became hot topics around the world. OnePlus definitely wants to ensure this is an actual ‘flagship killer’ unlike the misdirected OnePlus 2 that came in 2015.
On Wednesday, multiple reports surfaced regarding the OnePlus 3’s battery and charging.
The battery within the next flagship from OnePlus will, according to MyDrivers, raise battery capacity from 3300mAh to 3500mAh. Having a battery so large could indicate that the OnePlus 3 will either be thicker than its predecessor or feature a feature a larger display to stretch the component in order to avoid the other possibility. By comparison, Google’s Huawei-made Nexus 6P with its 5.7-inch battery has a 3450mAh battery. It’s very possible a 3500mAh battery causes OnePlus to increase display size to 5.7 inches.
Battery life, however, should be incredible as the OnePlus 3 is expected to have a Full HD (1920×1090) Super AMOLED display. Other flagships are shipping with power-hungry Quad HD (2560×1440) displays, but the company believes it can get away with Full HD. And, to be fair, OnePlus can definitely get away with a Full HD display in a world where Quad HD is common because it’s very difficult for people to actually notice a difference between the two.
The charging technology in the OnePlus 3, if GizmoChina is to be believed, won’t come from Qualcomm. Rather than using Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0 or 3.0, OnePlus plans to implement Oppo’s Super VOOC capable of delivering a full charge in 15 minutes.
Rumors point to the OnePlus 3 also having a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB/6GB of RAM, 32GB/64GB of internal storage, a 16MP rear camera, and an 8MP front camera. NFC could appear as well after being absent from the OnePlus 2.
Earlier this year, OnePlus’ Carl Pei said the OnePlus 3 would launch no later than the second quarter of 2016. That puts the handset’s arrival no later than June.
