Our spy photographers have spotted the facelifted Mercedes-Benz SL-Class on public roads outside the company’s research and development centre in Sindelfingen, Germany.

The prototype of the updated SL features black cladding and tape ahead of the A-pillar, as well as some along the rear bumper.

Up front, it looks as though the revised SL will sport a set of rounder, slimmer headlights, as well as a revised front bumper and grille. There may also be a new bonnet and redesigned vents behind the front wheels, although the cladding here may just be a ruse.

At the rear, the SL prototype has been fitted with a rear bumper that features revised curves. There are also new, primarily red tail-light graphics, which fit more readily into the styling themes established by the C-Class and S-Class.

Our photographers also managed to snap a shot or two of the updated SL’s interior. Unfortunately most of changes have been hidden by plastic and cloth shrouds.

It’s believed that the SL will feature a modern interpretation of the company’s steering wheel, as well as a larger touchscreen display and revised controls for the infotainment system.

Under the skin, the SL will likely feature a tweaked line-up of engines and transmissions.
