World RX: Mattias Ekström Rallycross Team EKSRX armed with Audi S1

News broke on Wednesday that Mattias Ekström's new World Rallycross team will be fielding two Audi S1 Supercar class rallycross cars this year. 

EKSRX will be running the two cars that will be driven by the Swedish driver, Pontus Tidemand, and a number of guest drivers as wildcard entries. The EKSRX team will be taking part in selected rounds of the new FIA World Rallycross Championship (World RX) this year with the goal of developing their new Audi S1 cars.

The first glimpse of the car is a white Audi S1 called the "Audi S1 EKS RX Concept".

This confirms the second Audi team entering the 2014 World RX, as Münnich Motorpsort will be entering their Audi S3 rallycross car in the Supercar class as well. 

The 2014 World RX season gets underway in Portugal, 3-4 May, however neither of the two Audi teams are currently listed on the entry list for the first round.

Video: Hannu Mikkola reunited with quattro

A new video featuring the Audi quattro and Hannu Mikkola has been released on the official Audi Youtube channel. 

The video, entitled "The quattro success story - Hannu Mikkola in BarilocheArgentina", includes spectacular footage and an extended interview with Hannu Mikkola, who is reunited with one of the old Audi quattro rally cars. Enjoy the video embedded below:

Gallery: Quattro Legende - Club Audi Sport Suisse (CASS)

A tremendous Audi Club event was held over this past weekend. The “Quattro Legende”, hosted from Thursday until Saturday, featured a huge line-up of Audi road, race and rally cars. Club Audi Sport Suisse (CASS) was also at the event with its members and as an event partner. 

The highlight of the event was a hillclimb for the Audi cars, described as a: “hillclimb to the Bavarian clouds!”

Over 200 Audis were registered, including a large number of high performance Audi road cars, also sporting original quattro and RS machinery. The major attraction was the addition of original Audi Sport quattro S1 E2 rally cars and S1 replicas. Many Audi quattro rally and hillclimb cars also took part, adding to the sights and sounds from this terrific Audi occasion.

Video: Walter Röhrl crashes an Audi Sport quattro S1 at Lavanttal Rallye

Walter Röhrl is one of the greatest drivers, if not the greatest World Rally driver of all time. The legendary Audi driver won everything with the quattro cars, from World Rally Championship events and the Pikes Peak Hillclimb.

He crashed an Audi Sport quattro S1 E2 at the Lavanttal Rallye event last weekend, something very rare for the rally legend. Luckily the damage was minimal. Here is a video from our friends at MotorsportSpielberg on YouTube.

Video: Audi S1 quattro and Stig Blomqvist at the Race of Champions 2012

Bangkok hosted the 2012 Race of Champions last weekend. A great field of superstars and world champions competing in two competitions, the Nations Cup and the Champion of Champions. Audi was very well represented at the event with Mr. Le Mans, Tom Kristensen, as well as the Audi R8 LMS, a car used by the drivers in the competition. In addition to the R16 there was an Audi Sport quattro S1 E2 Group B rally racer. A special event needs a special driver as well, and here it was Audi legend, Stig Blomqvist who was behind the wheel at the Bangkok Stadium.

Video: Pure sound Audi S1 quattro at 1000 Lakes Rally

A great video on Youtube has been added by the 5CylenderSound channel . A glorious and legendary Audi Sport quattro S1 E2 Group B rally monster at the famous 1000 Lakes Rally in Finland. Two minutes and twenty seven second of epic 5 cylinder sound at one of the fastest and most demanding events in the FIA World Rally Championship calendar. This is the #6 machine which was driven by Audi legend, Hannu Mikkola. The car was fast but unlucky and did retire in the end with a mechanical problem.

Just turn up your speakers and enjoy.

PURE SOUND: Audi quattro cars at Quattrolegend

A brand new video has just been added on Youtube. The event is the "Quattrolegend" in Germany. The video features some quattros and legends such as Walter Röhrl and Stig Blomqvist. The famous Prospeed Motorsport S1 quattro replica also took part in the event.
