Huawei has announced the Mate 20 series, the continuation of the flagship Mate line of devices. Featuring some top-of-the-line tech and bleeding edge specs, it’s sure to be a sought after phone.
Unfortunately we won’t have a chance to officially pick one up in the US. This is no surprise after the issues Huawei has had with the US government, especially after carriers dropped the Mate 10 Pro due to government pressure. A spokesperson told Business Insider:
“We are not planning to sell the Mate 20 Series in the US. While international variants of the Mate 20 Series may be available on some US online retail sites, we encourage individuals to carefully read the details about the warranty and network compatibility before purchasing.”
We can still pick the devices up at third-party retailers, which is great. We’ve always found ways to import things we can’t easily buy (Kinder eggs are worth a life of crime) so it’s not a huge hit for tech enthusiasts. It’s also not the biggest deal for Huawei, as the company is huge in almost every market but the US, so we wouldn’t have made a huge impact on overall sales anyway.
Hopefully the company will find a way to come back to the US, but for now, we’ll have to look towards eBay to get that sweet Mate 20 X.
