LG Electronics on Sunday announced the LG Signature Edition (2018), its latest luxurious Android smartphone that’s been the subject of several rumors in recent weeks but wasn’t expected to launch before August. The rumored $1,800 price tag turned out to be correct, much like the handset’s availability which will be limited to the company’s home country of South Korea. Last year’s LG Signature Edition was manufactured in only 300 units and the same limit also applies to the new lineup, the Seoul-based tech giant confirmed.
Much like the LG Signature Edition was effectively an ultra-premium revamp of the V30, the new device uses the V35 ThinQ as its base, offering the same basic set of specifications, including a notchless 6-inch OLED display with a QHD+ resolution, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845, 6GB of RAM, and a 16-megapixel dual-camera setup featuring two wide-angle lenses, one of which has a 107-degree field of view. A 3,300mAh battery is also part of the package, together with a 32-bit Quad-DAC, one front camera with an 8-megapixel sensor and an 80-degree lens, and a custom implementation of Android 8.0 Oreo. The back plate of the LG Signature Edition (2018) is made of zirconium ceramics and allows for wireless charging, with the device also featuring IP68-rated resistance to water and dust particles and a case made in accordance with the MIL-STD 810G military durability standard. 256GB of flash memory expandable via a microSD card is on offer as well, together with a rear-mounted fingerprint reader. The Android-powered flagship is 151.7 x 75.4 x 7.3mm in size and weighs 157g, being identical to the V35 ThinQ in that regard.
Customers who purchase the LG Signature Edition (2018) will also receive a complimentary pair of Bang & Olufsen (B&O) Beoplay H9i headphones meant to take full advantage of the handset’s quad-DAC. The over-the-ear headphones are regularly priced at approximately $500, depending on the market, making the overall package a much more value-oriented proposition than the original LG Signature Edition series launched late last year. The LG Signature Edition (2018) will be offered in Black and White color options, both of which can be seen in the gallery below.
