Snap Inc has added three new formats to its Snapchat Spectacles exports. These include a new round export option, a square export option, and a widescreen export option so you can choose from a few different types if you weren’t particularly fond of the original format that has been available since the first version of Spectacles launched back in 2016. The original format, which is a round media export with a white frame, has been the only option for the better part of nearly two years, but no longer.
If you like the round media format but not the color of the frame, white can be switched out for black, which might also compliment certain platforms better than the white frame. If you don’t like frames at all, both the square-shaped and widescreen export formats come with no frame at all which should put more focus on the media itself. The update is slowly rolling out to users according to Snap Inc. so the new format options may not be available to everyone just yet and may end up being a day or two before they’re visible and usable by all Spectacles users.
Worth mentioning is that if you post the exported media to any platform other than Snapchat, the frames and shapes will stay intact even if you view them in landscape mode. On Snapchat, however, turning your phone to landscape mode lets you view the exported media in a fullscreen orientation without the frames and backgrounds, while it’ll retain those elements when viewing the media in portrait mode. Snap began testing new formats for the exported media back in May, including a possible 16:9 option. Snap also released the second generation of its Spectacles glasses this month, making them available to buy on Amazon around June 11 for $150 for those that have always wanted a pair but found them hard to get a hold of before.
