Samsung Galaxy Note 9 To Feature Improved S Pen Stylus: Rumor

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 9 will debut with a significantly improved S Pen that’s going to be “worth the wait,” one known industry insider from China said earlier today. The source that boasts a positive track record with Samsung-related leaks didn’t elaborate on the matter but the claim that the Galaxy Note 9’s stylus will be a major step forward compared to its predecessor isn’t new, with several other insiders making it in recent months. The S Pen that came as part of the Galaxy Note 8 last year was largely identical to the one included with its ill-fated predecessor; it featured 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, weighted about 2.83 grams, and was largely made of plastic. The majority of stylus-related improvements debuted by the Galaxy Note 8 came on the software front, being introduced in the form of new features such as Live Messages and a smart GIF creation engine.

Samsung still advertised the Galaxy Note 8‘s S Pen as a major improvement, albeit only compared to the 2015 Galaxy Note 5 seeing how it discontinued the phablet released between those two models due to battery issues which made it prone to catching on fire, melting, and exploding. The Galaxy Note 9 may finally bring the number of the S Pen’s pressure sensitivity levels to 8,192 and possibly make the stylus more energy-efficient. New software features are essentially a given seeing how Samsung has been consistently introducing them with every Galaxy Note-series device, usually focusing on productivity, e.g. allowing customers to use the Always-On Display service of their phablets as a notebook and presenting them with an accurate and straightforward tool for text selection and translation.

The Galaxy Note 9 is widely expected to be officially announced on August 9, with Samsung supposedly planning a new “Unpacked” event in New York City on that date. An early August debut would likely see the Android flagship released by the end of that same month. The Galaxy Note 9 is likely to be Samsung’s final high-end mobile release of the year, paving the way for the Galaxy S10 series and the company’s first foldable smartphone, both of which are said to be coming in the first half of 2019.
