Pokemon Go Now Supports Trading, Gifting, And More

Niantic Labs added trading, gifting, and a number of other new features and improvements to the latest version of Pokemon Go, the mobile developer said earlier this week. The novelties are being introduced as part of version 0.107.1 update that should already be available for download from the Google Play Store on a global level. Anyone whose app hasn’t been updated automatically can install the latest software build manually by referring to the banner below.

Trading has been one of the most highly anticipated Pokemon Go features that Niantic has been teasing since the mobile game was even released in the summer of 2016. While the San Francisco, California-based studio presumably never planned on launching the game with a trading system, previous statements from its officials suggested that developing a full-featured system for swapping Pokemon among players proved to be a much more difficult challenge than originally thought. The functionality that’s now finally supported by the augmented reality game works in a straightforward manner and becomes available to players as soon as they hit Trainer Level 10, which shouldn’t take more than a day or so.

The latest version of Pokemon Go also debuts a more robust social component, providing players with the ability to create and manage a Friend List, build Friendship Levels with other trainers, and receive bonuses when tackling Raid Battles with their peers. As previously announced, Friend Lists only become available once players hit the current level cap – 40. Gifting items collected from PokeStops can be done even before reaching the maximum level, i.e. doesn’t require you to be in-game friends with someone in order to send them goodies or receive some Poke Balls or boosters. The Pokemon Collection search engine has also been improved as it now allows players to discover Alolan forms of pocket monsters. The popular mobile game is expected to receive at least one more major content update by the end of the year, most likely in fall.
