One model from Samsung’s Galaxy S10 lineup of Android flagships will feature a triple-camera setup on its back, South Korean outlet ETNews reports, citing sources close to the world’s largest handset manufacturer. Unlike recent annual additions to the Galaxy S family, the Galaxy S10 series is said to consist of three devices instead of two, as per the same source. The entire line is understood to be code-named “Beyond,” with “Beyond 0” being the internal moniker of the base model which will feature a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display panel which won’t be curved, thus being the first high-end mobile screen from Samsung since the Galaxy S7 debuted in early 2016, insiders claim.
The more expensive model known as “Beyond 1” will also have a 5.8-inch display, though its panel is said to be of the curved variety, much like the 6.2-inch module meant to be used by the rumored “Beyond 2.” The latter device is being described as the true successor to this year’s Galaxy S9 Plus and one that Samsung is considering equipping with a triple-camera setup, perhaps not unlike the system utilized by Huawei’s P20 Plus flagship that’s currently considered to feature the world’s most capable mobile photography package, according to French image benchmarking company DxOMark.
The last premium handset lineup from Samsung that featured three models was the 2015 Galaxy S6 series, though the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus was announced four months after its smaller counterparts. One analyst already predicted the South Korean OEM will be considering a three-lens imaging system for the Galaxy S10 earlier this month, asserting that the firm cannot afford to fall behind Huawei in the mobile photography race. Triple-camera setups are hence expected to gain additional momentum in the coming months and will likely be followed by quadruple-sensor solutions and smartphone systems with even more lenses, according to a number of recent forecasts from various industry watchers. The Galaxy S10 series is likely to be announced in early 2019, either at the next iteration of Mobile World Congress or around the time the annual Barcelona-based trade show takes place.
