The Nokia 3.1 is the company’s newest sub-$200 smartphone, and it is now available in the US. It is priced at $159 right now, and it is available through Amazon and B&H Photo. That’s a great price for a smartphone, especially one that is part of the Android One family. Pitting it at the low-end of the Android One family, as the Nokia 1 which is slightly cheaper, is part of the Android Go family.
Inside the Nokia 3.1, you’ll find a MediaTek MT6755 chipset running the show, along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. There is also a 5.2-inch display that sports a 18:9 aspect ratio with a 1440×720 resolution display. There is also a 13-megapixel sensor on the rear for taking somewhat decent photos (don’t expect it to compete with something like the Galaxy S9 or Pixel 2 XL). There will also be a 3GB/32GB model available, though Nokia has not mentioned anything about that version, so that may not be coming to the US. There is also a 2990mAh capacity battery inside, which should keep the Nokia 3.1 running all-day long without much of an issue. Of course, the Nokia 3.1 is also running on Android 8.1 Oreo, the absolute latest version of Android as of today.
With the Nokia 3.1 being part of the Android One program, it means that you’re getting a stock Android device, running on an AOSP version of Android. This means that there are very little changes from what Google puts out. The major changes here are in the camera, and that’s due to the proprietary features and drivers included there. With Android One, Nokia is able to push out updates faster, which is something that HMD Global is really promoting with its devices in recent months. The Nokia 3.1 is available for pre-order now from Amazon and B&H Photo for $159, however it will launch officially on July 2.
