ARCore Support Coming To The Nokia 8 Soon, CPO Says

ARCore support is coming to the Nokia 8. For those of you who do not know, ARCore is Google’s augmented reality (AR) platform, which does not require any specialized hardware. ARCore replaced Project Tango, basically, and it was announced by Google less than a year ago, in August 2017. The OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 6, LG V35 ThinQ, Moto G5 Plus, Galaxy S9 and the S9 Plus received ARCore support thus far, while ARCore is also on the way to the Essential Phone.

Now, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer (CPO), Juho Sarvikas, announced that ARCore support is live for the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7 Plus, and Nokia 8 Sirocco, while it is coming to the Nokia 8 soon. Mr. Sarvikas did not reveal any specific timeframe when the Nokia 8 will get ARCore support, but we’re guessing it will happen in the next couple of weeks. The Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco probably got ARCore support early because they’re newer than the Nokia 8, despite the fact that the Nokia 8 is the company’s flagship smartphone along with the Nokia 8 Sirocco. The Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco were introduced in 2018, while the Nokia 8 arrived in September last year. The Nokia 8 is HMD Global’s first Nokia-branded flagship smartphone, and it was to be expected that it will get ARCore at some point.

The Nokia 8 is made out of metal, while it sports a front-facing fingerprint scanner, which is flanked by two capacitive keys. The device’s bezels aren’t exactly all that thin, as it sports rather chunky bezels above and below the display, but at least its side bezels are almost non-existent. The device sports a 5.3-inch QHD display, 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB of storage. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core processor fuels the Nokia 8, while the device ships with Android 7.1.1 Nougat, but it is upgradable to Android 8.1 Oreo. The Nokia 8 is also IP54-certified, and it features two 13-megapixel cameras on the back with Zeiss’ optics. If you’d like to know more about the Nokia 8, click here.
