Xiaomi has just confirmed that the next iteration of its Android-based skin will be called MIUI 10, not MIUI X as some recent rumors suggested, and that we’ll see a number of AI features within that update. MIUI 9 is the current version of the company’s skin, and these MIUI 10 news were announced during MIUI team’s 2017 summary meeting. MIUI 10 was announced by the company’s Senior Vice President, Hong Feng, while Xiaomi’s co-founder also attended the meeting.
Having said that, neither of the two Xiaomi officials released detailed regarding MIUI 10, all we know thus far is that it will be called MIUI 10, and that is it. XIaomi had introduced MIUI 9 back in July last year, and it started rolling out a global version of that ROM to its smartphones back in November. So, MIUI 10 will probably get fully announced in mid-2018, while a global version of MIUI 10 ROM will start hitting smartphones in Q4 this year, probably, though we’re only guessing based on the timeline for MIUI 9. Xiaomi is, however, expected to announce its new flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 7, during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona next month. The company still did not confirm that the phone will be announced, but MWC’s official website confirmed that Xiaomi will have a booth at the tradeshow, so we’ll probably see some announcements happen there, and even though Xiaomi did not participate last year’s MWC, the company did announce the XIaomi Mi 5 back in 2016.
Xiaomi had recently announced that MIUI 9 update will hit 40 of its phones, and even the XIaomi Mi 2 which was announced way back in 2012 will receive the update, which managed to surprise quite a few people. MIUI 10 will probably be based on Android Oreo, and the next version of Android that gets announced this year, as Xiaomi usually bases every iteration of its skin on two versions of Android, at least that was the case for the last couple of iterations. We can not even guess what changes will MIUI 10 bring, but it will probably update the design of Xiaomi’s Android skin, while it will also introduce some new features that we’ve seen in Android, plus some of Xiaomi’s very own features. In any case, more info will probably surface in the near future via rumors and leaks, so stay tuned for that.
