Synchronoss Technologies is looking to diversify and take full advantage of the opportunities presented as part of the next wireless evolution, Chief Executive Officer Glenn Lurie told Android Headlines. Besides expanding the scope of its activities, the New Jersey-based firm is also looking to strengthen its international presence on its road to sustainable growth. Its cloud-based portfolio should still serve as a basis for any future efforts, backed by the technological innovations that are expected to be directly enabled by 5G. Messaging and other types of cloud-based services are presently some of Synchronoss’s flagship offerings, while the firm itself has a long history of supporting retailers, original equipment manufacturers, management services, and federal agencies, as well as telecom giants.
Synchronoss is far from the only company excited about the prospects of 5G that many expect to lead to an entirely new category of products and services, consequently opening new revenue streams and growth opportunities. It’s uniquely positioned to take advantage of many of them due to its established involvement in the wireless sector, though its diversification efforts remain focused on business-to-business offerings. Besides Mr. Lurie who joined the company late last year after spending more than two decades with AT&T, last serving as CEO of its Mobility and Consumer Operations, Synchronoss’s leadership was recently strengthened with the addition of Mary Patterson Clark, a mobile industry veteran hired from B2B service provider Syniverse who now leads its product management and communications endeavors, having been appointed as Chief Marketing Officer and EVP of Product earlier this month.
Going forward, “digital transformation” will still be the name of the game for Synchronoss that remains vague about its new near-term projects but is expected to share more details on them later this year. Today, the company has offices throughout the United States and is also officially present in Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, Australia, India, Japan, and China. While the nature of its B2B operations makes Synchronoss less likely to end up in the headlines on a frequent basis, the firm and its rivals are likely to gain more public attention once the fifth generation of mobile networks is commercialized, opening additional opportunities for them to collaborate with wireless carriers on products and services that will ultimately be offered to both enterprises and consumers.
