Alleged Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 variants got certified by the 3C authority in China quite recently, and now the Redmi Note 5 specs have surfaced as well, along with the phone’s release date, as the device is rumored to arrive at the end of February. Before we start talking about the device’s specs, however, it’s worth noting that it’s still unclear whether the Redmi Note 5 will launch at all. MIUI forum moderator suggested that the Redmi 5 Plus replaced the Redmi Note 5, while some other sources report that the device will launch soon. Yesterday’s info, however, claims that the Redmi Note 5 will launch as a rebranded Redmi 5 Plus unit in some markets, like India for example, so it’s really difficult to know what to believe at the moment. In any case, let’s take a look at the Redmi Note 5’s leaked specs, shall we.
According to the source, the Redmi Note 5 will be made out of metal, it will sport an integrated metallic chassis with nano-injection molding antenna design. The device will feature a 5.99-inch fullHD+ (2160 x 1080) display, just like the Redmi 5 Plus, which means this will be yet another handset in the company’s lineup to sport an 18:9 display. The device is also rumored to sport a dual camera setup on the back, and become the first smartphone in the ‘Redmi Note’ lineup to sport such a setup on its back. If the rumor is to be believed, the phone will sport 16 and 5-megapixel shooters on the back, while an 8-megapixel camera will be included on the device’s front side. Android Nougat will come pre-installed on the phone, while Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 skin will be applied on top of it.
Now, the source also mentions two different Redmi Note 5 variants as well. The base model of the device is rumored to sport 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, while it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 630 64-bit octa-core processor. The more powerful variant of the phone will actually arrive not only with more RAM and storage, but with a different processor as well. That variant is rumored to sport 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and the Snapdragon 636 64-bit octa-core processor. The base model of the device is expected to cost 1,499 Yuan ($237), while the more powerful variant could set you back 1,799 Yuan (284).
