The Vivo Xplay 7 flagship leaked again earlier this month, with some of its supposedly official promotional materials appearing on Chinese social media platform Weibo. The two photographs seen in the gallery below allege that the upcoming device will become the first smartphone to be commercialized with 10GB of RAM and will also boast a number of other ultra-premium features, including a 4K display panel. The newly leaked information doesn’t correspond with all previous rumors about Vivo’s next high-end offering, particularly in regards to its screen-to-body ratio. While a number of older reports suggested the handset will essentially lack bezels, the new images claim the screen will cover 92.9 percent of its front panel.
Vivo may also opt to stylize the name of the Xplay 7 as “Xplay7,” according to the same leak which claims the handset will feature an in-display fingerprint reader, much like the recently announced X20 Plus UD which became the first commercialized smartphone using that technology last week. As is the case with the new mid-ranger, the Xplay 7 will have a Synaptics-made fingerprint scanner, the source indicates. The successor to the 2016 flagship is said to be fueled by the Snapdragon 845, Qualcomm’s most powerful mobile chip to date which the tech giant announced late last year, saying it expects the silicon to be featured inside the vast majority of Android flagships set to be released over the course of 2018.
The high-end offering will supposedly be available in two variants, both of which will sport 10GB of RAM and differ in terms of storage space. The most expensive model will reportedly boast 512GB of internal flash memory, whereas the base version will offer half of that amount. The mobile industry has yet to deliver a smartphone with half a terabyte of storage and Samsung is still widely expected to be the first to do so with the most premium variant of the Galaxy S9 Plus. It’s presently unclear whether the Vivo Xplay 7 will also utilize Samsung-made memory but that scenario seems likely, with the Korean company being the only flash storage manufacturer that’s already mass-producing 512GB chips. A dual-camera setup with 4X lossless zoom is also alleged to be part of the package, as is Face Unlock 2.0, the next generation of Vivo’s facial recognition solution. The Vivo Xplay 7 may be officially announced by spring as its predecessor launched just over a year ago in December of 2016.
