Sharp Unveils Android One S3 Handset With Android 8.0 Oreo

Sharp has just announced a new Android One smartphone in Japan, the Sharp Android One S3, which is, as its name says, a part of Google’s Android One project. This handset is a direct successor to the Sharp Android One S2 which was introduced in the country last year. The all-new Android One S3 is more powerful than its predecessor, of course, and if you take a look at the images down below, you will be able to check out the design of this smartphone.

As you can see, the Sharp Android One S3 sports relatively thick bezels all around, especially above and below its display. All the physical keys are placed on the right-hand side of the phone, while it seems like this phone is made out of polycarbonate (plastic). Both Sharp and Android One brandings are included on the back of the device, while the phone sports a single camera on the back. This smartphone is quite compact, despite its bezels, mainly because it sports a 5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, and this is Sharp’s IGZO display we’re looking at here. The phone is fueled by the Snapdragon 430 processor by Qualcomm’s, which is the company’s entry-level SoC. This smartphone packs in 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage, which you can expand up to 256GB using a microSD card. A 13-megapixel snapper is located on the back of this phone, while you will find a 5-megapixel camera on the phone’s front side.

This smartphone sports a 2,700mAh non-removable battery on the inside, while Android 8.0 Oreo comes pre-installed on the Sharp Android One S3. It’s also worth noting that the phone sports IPX5/8 certification for waterproofing and IP6X certification which makes it dustproof as well. As you can see, the phone uses on-screen buttons, and a fingerprint scanner is nowhere to be found. The Sharp Android One S3 comes in Black, White, Green and Pink color variants, and it is currently available for purchase in Japan for 32,400 Yen ($297). The phone will, allegedly, become available in some other markets, like Taiwan, in the near future, but chances are it will never become available in the US or Europe, though nothing has been confirmed just yet, who knows, maybe Sharp decides to expand its availability sometime this year.
