MyKronoz Unveils The ZeTime Hybrid Smartwatch – CES 2018

Swiss wearable manufacturer MyKronoz has brought its latest hybrid smartwatch at CES 2018. Unlike most other hybrid watches that generally adopt a more mechanical design sprinkled with smart features such as LED notifications or small embedded displays, the MyKronoz ZeTime makes use of a full-fledged circular TFT touchscreen covering the entire watchface, all the while adopting mechanical hands to tell the time. The device will be launched in two sizes as MyKronoz believes this strategy is the key to achieving success in the smart wearable market.

The MyKronoz ZeTime was initially presented as a crowdfunded project and the smartwatch amassed more than $6 million in pledges from the Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns, making it the most funded hybrid smartwatch in the world and the most backed project of 2017. This success seems to be largely attributed to the fact that the ZeTime has a unique approach towards hybrid smartwatch design, leaning more towards the idea of offering smart capabilities sprinkled with mechanical characteristics rather than the other way around. But interestingly enough, the mechanical arms are controlled by the internal CPU, which means that they can not only be synced with a smartphone to get the accurate time but can also move around the circular watch face depending on context. Also worth noting is that the device should be water resistant and should offer up to 3 days of battery life in smartwatch mode, or up to 30 days in mechanical mode. Lastly, the menus can be navigated by rotating and pressing the smart crown, and the circular display is protected by a sheet of Sapphire glass.

The ZeTime will be available as the 39mm Petite version featuring a 1.05-inch display, while the 44mm Regular variant will house a slightly larger 1.22-inch circular panel. The device will be offered with a variety of case finishings and bands and will have a starting price of $199. Exact availability details have not yet been disclosed but according to the latest announcement the company will continue to promote the ZeTime hybrid smartwatch “by early 2018” across more than 60 countries. For now, the MyKronoz ZeTime Petite and Regular are being showcased on the CES show floor at the MyKronos booth in the Sands Expo.
