JBL LINK View Is A Smart Display Equipped With Google Assistant – CES 2018

Today at CES 2018 JBL introduced its latest product, the JBL LINK View. While JBL is more likely to be known for its audio solutions, the JBL LINK View is a display-first device. More specifically, it is a display-first device which also features the Google Assistant. Offering those interested in making use of the various features associated with a voice assistant, the opportunity to also benefit from a display.

JBL does already offer Google Assistant compatibility with a number of its speakers and headphones. In fact, most of which are part of the LINK-branded family of products, which the View now joins. However, the LINK View will look to offer consumers a way to engage with the Google Assistant which goes well beyond the use of a speaker or headphones for standard audio playback. While music playback is also possible through the LINK View (as it comes equipped with two 10-watt speakers and support for HD audio streaming), the focus here will be on the display which measures in at 8-inches and sports a HD resolution. Therefore, LINK View owners will be able to use this device similar to how they might a tablet. Albeit one which puts the Assistant firmly at the heart of its operations. For example, users will be able to instantly launch a video to watch on YouTube, make a video call (5-megapixel front-facing camera included), or anything else a display might be needed for, and all just by using voice commands. That said, the display is a touch-enabled display so users will also be able to interact with the display in much the same way they would with a traditional tablet.

In terms of availability, details are still fairly limited at this point with the LINK View not due to arrive to market until the summer of 2018. Furthermore, when it does become available, it will only initially become available to buyers in the US. Although JBL has confirmed it does plan to make the LINK View available to buyers in other regions at some point in the future. As for the price, this is currently unknown with JBL yet to disclose how much the JBL LINK View will cost in the US, or elsewhere.
