Televisions and displays are a big deal at this year’s CES 2018 event and Acer is looking to get in on the action too with the announcement of a new 65-inch Predator-branded gaming display. Featuring top-end specs such as 4K resolution and HDR support at 120Hz, the Predator Big Format Gaming Display (BFGD) also includes NVIDIA’s NVIDIA G-SYNC technology. That allows the refresh rate to be varied as required by whatever content happens to currently be playing on the display. Meanwhile, the display also boasts an impressive 1,000 nits of peak brightness, with local dimming for more contrast, darker blacks, and brighter whites.
Aside from that, Acer’s BFGD ships with two major differences that set it apart from the competition. Not least of all, the set includes Google’s A.I.-driven Assistant for ready access to voice controls and other smart home features. Taking things even further to the extreme, as part of NVIDIA’s earlier announced BFGD lineup, Acer’s new television also comes packing the former company’s NVIDIA SHIELD unit built right in. So it makes sense that customers who pick one up of these display up will actually receive both a remote and an NVIDIA SHIELD controller in the bundle to help them take advantage of the streaming content that platform brings with it. The controller, in particular, should prove useful since that does include the platform’s many available gaming experiences.
Unfortunately, as of this writing, there has been no official word as to when Acer plans to bring its new display to market. Given the high-end specs of the display and all of the functionality and devices built directly into it, it’s almost certainly going to end up being priced toward the upper end of the price spectrum for displays. However, it’s also unlikely to cost quite as much as some of the more pricey displays that are already available or set to become available in the near future. Having said that, depending on the cost that it does eventually arrive with, this is one display that should probably be near the top of the list of considerations for both technology lovers and gamers to check out.
