Why You Should Consider Gifting A Budget Phone This Christmas

2017 is a year of ‘bezel-less’ and budget smartphones, or at least it seems that way. A ton of smartphone manufacturing companies have decided to trim down bezels on the devices they’ve released this year, and in addition to that, we’ve also seen quite a few affordable, and yet quite compelling smartphones being released throughout the year. Well, the holidays are coming, and this may be the perfect time to get one of those budget phones for yourself or your loved ones. Now, if you’re into devices with thin bezels, and are on a relatively tight budget, there are phones out there that can offer both to you. Having said that, let’s talk about some of those smartphones, shall we, we may even be able to give you some ideas for your Christmas shopping list, read on.

Now, when we say budget, we mean the sub-$300 price point, and there are quite a few interesting phones available within that range, including the Honor 7X, Nokia 6, Moto G5 Plus, Redmi 5 (Plus), and the Xiaomi Mi A1, though it was now replaced with a newer model. These are only some of the compelling devices that can be purchased for less than $300, and some of them have been announced quite recently, actually, namely the Honor 7X, Redmi 5 and the Redmi 5 Plus. Speaking of which those three devices come with really thin bezels, which is not something that their predecessors can say. Budget phones did not exactly ship with thin bezels, until recently, and it’s also worth noting that some of these devices cost considerably less than $300, including all three Honor / Xiaomi smartphones that we’ve mentioned.

So, why should you consider getting a budget phone instead of a more expensive device? Well, people mainly get budget phones in order to save money, either they’re not willing to part with quite a bit of cash to buy a premium device, or they simply can’t afford to do something like that. No matter in which of those two categories you belong two, you’ll be glad to know that budget smartphones have managed to become really good, well, some of them have. In the past, budget Android handsets did not have that many advantages, but over the course of the last couple of years, manufacturers like Xiaomi, Honor, Huawei… and so on, have really stepped up and started releasing not only great, affordable flagship phones, but also budget phones which you can get for less than $300, and the phones that we’ve listed in the last paragraph are great examples, actually.

The vast majority of consumers simply does not need a flagship smartphone, a budget phone like the Honor 7X, Redmi 5 Plus or the Nokia 6 is more than capable of handling everyday tasks like a champ, even if you dabble in some gaming and what not. True, you may not be getting the top of the line camera, or the premium display that you’ve been looking for, but the performance is mainly not an issue when it comes to a ton of budget smartphones, and truth be told very few people see the difference between a solid fullHD panel, and a QHD display that most flagship phones sport these days. Battery life is also something worth considering, as these budget smartphones not only ship with less power-hungry processors, but they usually sport lower-res display, and also ship with larger battery packs than flagships, which doesn’t exactly make that much sense when you think about it, but it is what it is.

Now, some of you may wonder what’s the build quality on budget phones, are flagships that much better in that regard… well, the short answer is, no, they’re not. The vast majority of solid budget phones out there, such as the Honor 7X, are made out of metal, and some even out of metal and glass, and on top of that, bezels are also noticeably thinner on a ton of budget phones these days, so you’re not really giving up on premium designs, not at all. In the past, budget smartphones were made mainly out of plastic, and their bezels were huge, so it was easy to sport a budget phone in a crowd, but nowadays, budget phones can look quite premium, which makes it really hard for people to single out budget devices if they don’t know exactly what they’re looking at. On top of everything we’ve mentioned, cameras on budget phones have also managed to become considerably better, they’re still not on par with flagship phones, and chances are they never will be, but devices such as the Xiaomi Mi A1 actually have really solid snappers that you won’t be disappointed with, especially when you consider how much money you spent in the process.

Let us give you some examples, the Xiaomi Mi A1 is one of Xiaomi’s newest handsets, and is a part of Google’s Android One project. This essentially means that the phone ships with stock Android, and in addition to that, it sports a solid metal build, and a dual camera setup on the back that may surprise you, as those two cameras are quite capable of shooting really good photos. This phone is not lacking in the spec department either, as it sports a fullHD display, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and it is fueled by Qualcomm’s mid-range processor. The Xiaomi Mi A1 can be purchased from Amazon and GeraBest at the moment, and it’s priced at $259.95 and $XXX,XX, respectively. If you’re in the market for something with thinner bezels and you don’t mind company’s skins, well, the Honor 7X, Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are here to save the day. All three of those phones sport thinner bezels than the Xiaomi Mi A1, and yet, all three of them ship with solid specs and build quality, though the Redmi 5 Plus and Honor 7X are considerably more powerful than the Redmi 5. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus are currently available for pre-order over at GearBest, while the Honor 7X can be purchased from XXX for XXX.
