Google Flights, Trips, And Hotel Search Get Price-Tracking

Google is already looking forward to the next traveling season and it has improved its travel suite of applications, adding price-tracking features to Google Flights, Trips, and hotel search. The company says that price is one of the most important aspects its users take into account when planning a trip. Whether they’re looking for airplane tickets or accommodation, users are always interested in finding the best deals and the lowest prices for what they need. With this in mind, the new price-tracking features now offer indications as to when it would be best to buy an airline ticket, book a hotel room, or plan activities for a trip.

Such price-tracking features have already been available for a good while on various travel services, but having them baked into popular Google services makes them more accessible to a broader audience, making it easier to get good rates upon searching the web to plan a trip. Google Flights taps machine learning technology to assess price data and determine when it would be best to book a flight at the lowest rate. Upon entering a desired destination and seeing airline prices, users will also get tips such as “prices are less than normal” or “prices won’t drop any further,” based on Google’s historical price information and predictions. Users can take these tips into account and, if their travel dates can be flexible, they may find better prices based on Google’s data. These tips will be easily visible, appearing right above the search results. These price-tracking features for Google Flights are rolling out globally, on both mobile and desktop.

Searching for hotels on Google will offer similar information, alerting users if room prices are higher than usual, or if the area will be busy due to some conference, concert, or some other event. Mobile users can also sign up for email alerts about hotel price fluctuations, while desktop users will get this option early next year. Google Trips, meanwhile, is getting a new Discounts feature designed to inform users about discounted tours, tickets, and other activities for their vacation. The Trips app launched last year, aiming to make it easier for users to find and book fun activities on a trip. The new Discounts feature aim to make the personal travel planner even more useful, offering in-app information on deals for the city being visited.
