Two new Alexa voice features are coming to Amazon Music subscribers as Amazon officially announced the details about these new features on December 15th. There are lots of ways to listen to streaming music and lots of types of music to listen to through each of those methods. With Amazon Music one of the new focus points is letting subscribers of the service utilize their voice and an Amazon Alexa-enabled device like any of the available Echo speakers to find popular music that’s currently being listened to by locals of various locations. So for example, if you’re curious to know what the locals are currently listening to in Tokyo, Alexa will now have a feature that allows Amazon Music subs to say “Alexa, play popular songs in Tokyo” and users will get back the results with Amazon Music beginning playback of songs that fit into that category.
This new feature is called Local Popularity and as the name suggests users can utilize this to find locally popular music tracks. Amazon states that subscribers can use the feature to ask about playing popular music in both cities and countries across the globe, so if you’re more interested in locally popular music across all of Japan and not just Tokyo, you can ask about playing popular music in Japan and get the desired results for this too.
In addition to the Local Popularity feature Amazon Music also now supports a new feature called Play More Like This. Though the name pretty much says it all, Play More Like This will let users ask Alexa to play more songs like the one that is currently playing. In addition, if you don’t necessarily want to hear more music like the song that’s currently playing it’s possible to instead ask Alexa to play more songs that are similar to one that you specifically had in mind. Rather than ask Alexa to “play more songs like this,” you would say “play more songs like…” and then list off the name of the song you had in mind. You can do the same thing with artist names if you want to listen to songs which are similar to those coming from a particular artist. Amazon says the new features have been available since the announcement on December 15th, and they will be available to subscribers of both Amazon Music Unlimited and Prime Music.
