Samsung’s Galaxy A8/A8+ Skip Pressure-Sensitive Home Button

Samsung’s latest Galaxy A series devices have skipped on the pressure-sensitive home buttons seen on the company’s latest flagships. With the launch of the Galaxy A8 line, the South Korean company has introduced a number of flagship features to its more upper-mid-range devices, with elements such as the Infinity displays being included. Interestingly, though, the user manuals for the new Galaxy A8 line show that the company has opted out of including the new pressure-sensitive home button that debuted on the Galaxy S8 line.

Up until the launch of the Galaxy S8 line earlier this year, the physical home button was seen as a standout design element for the Samsung’s devices. Due to this, when the company scrapped the physical button on its flagships, it introduced a pressure-sensitive alternative in order to maintain a similar experience, but it appears this decision has not remained on the recently-launched Galaxy A8 line. The pressure-sensitivity of the button can be adjusted to the user’s desire, while users can also hard press the button to turn on the display, which is enabled at all times. But as the new user manuals reveal, Samsung has scrapped the element in favor of a more traditional on-screen home button as seen on many competing Android devices, something that could disappoint a few fans. Not only this, but the option to hard press the button to light up the display has also been scrapped. Instead, the only option is pressing the on-screen button whenever the Always-On-Display is activated, otherwise users will be forced to press the power button in order to light up the display, though the rear fingerprint sensor can still be used to unlock and turn the screen on in one step.

This feature is only one of the few that are lacking from the spec sheet of the smartphone line. After all, both devices feature powerful octa-core Exynos 7885 processors, alongside 4GB of RAM in the Galaxy A8 and 6GB of RAM in the Plus model and 64GB of internal storage. Other features include a 16-megapixel rear camera sensor on both devices, while the front is adorned with a dual-camera selfie setup, comprised of a main 16-megapixel sensor, and a secondary 8-megapixel one. For those interested in Samsung’s new duo of phones, the Galaxy A8 and Galaxy A8 Plus will be sometime released next month, while prices start at the equivalent of €499 and €599 respectively.
