Bentley Grand Convertible Concept: Draw a Caricature of a Luxury Car and Back It Off 5%

bentley fr3What if I told you that you could buy a high-performance hard-top convertible with a two-tone ripe-persimmon and purple exterior combined with a lime-green premium leather interior? Not that you would want to buy it -- but you could. British automaker Bentley unveiled their response to this question: What would the front of a Rolls Royce Phantom Drop Head and the rear of a Bentley Mulsanne look like? They did so at a private event just ahead of the 2014 Los Angles Auto Show. Is there a better place to display a convertible concept that is capable of competing with the world’s best production supercars and opulent down to the smallest detail? Bentley automobiles are handcrafted from the finest materials in the industry. Linen leather and the most beautiful real wood accents ever created for an auto interior are among the highlights. Bentley offers their cars in so many fantastic color combinations that you will be amazed. This particular concept car offers a hard-convertible top with a stunning surprise. The largest section of wood veneer ever used in a Bentley automobile; a real burr walnut wood plank fashioned into a tonneau cover hides the retracted hard top and blends well with the classic wood and leather interior. The seats and door panels are beautifully stitched in a diamond tufted pattern that is so luxurious and comfortable that it resembles driving a palace. So, what is all the fuss about? How about the tried and true engine that has been powering Bentley automobiles in some form or fashion since the 1950s? It is a 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that is capable of producing 530-horsepower and 811 lb.-ft. of torque. Assuming that it will use the running gear of the Mulsanne, the Bentley Grand Convertible Concept is expected to utilize an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drivetrain but these specs are not official. The Bentley Grand Convertible Concept is a seriously huge car (a skosh over 18-feet), despite being a coupe and a convertible. While no pricing has been released, expect this concept to be offered for well over the $200,000 mark.
