Samsung announced an extremely limited edition of Galaxy Note 8 cases made in collaboration with South Korean design firm 99AVANT, The Investor reported on Friday. The luxury case that can be seen above will only retail bundled with the Midnight Black variant of the Galaxy Note 8 and be available in just 99 units. Every model will feature a number between 1 and 99, with the entire package costing 1.99 million won, or approximately $1,828. That price tag makes the package nearly twice as expensive as the base model of the Galaxy Note 8, though the variant sold alongside the limited-edition case is of the ultra-premium variety and ships with 256GB of internal flash memory.
Sales will start next week and be restricted to Samsung’s home country, with no pre-order period being planned. The Seoul-based original equipment manufacturer will be retailing the bundle exclusively through its website and expects to sell out the series in a matter of minutes after orders became available on Tuesday, December 19th. Samsung is no stranger to special revisions of its mobile offerings but has a longer history or revising the handsets themselves instead of ordering limited-edition cases which it ends up bundling with its smartphones. The tech giant just recently debuted a Burgundy Red version of the Galaxy S8 which was introduced as a Korean exclusive but soon got confirmed for a Western release following an extremely positive reception in Samsung’s home country. Likewise, the company’s SMARTgirl revision of the Galaxy S8 Plus also launched earlier this fall and while it was presented as a more niche offering, it’s yet another unique addition to Samsung’s growing flagship family.
Consistent rereleases of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus are understood to be one of the main factors contributing to the current performance of Samsung’s premium lineup that’s still maintaining its momentum even eight months after its commercial debut. The stellar sales of the two handsets reportedly prompted Samsung to decide against rushing the Galaxy S9 to the market despite having already completed its trial production run and having the capacity to commercialize it as soon as next month. Instead, the company’s upcoming Android flagship is now expected to be officially announced at MWC 2018 which is starting on February 26th.
