Instagram has announced its latest update that brings Christmas-themed additions and Superzoom extras. In recent times, Instagram’s updates have been heavily centered around its Stories feature and the latest update is no different. The social network has announced a number of new Superzoom sound effects and the holiday season has not been forgotten with the addition of new face filters and stickers.
Facebook-owned Instagram originally introduced Superzoom to users back in October and launched it with a now-signature dramatic sound effect. With this update, though, the social network is introducing a new set of sounds, which will be gradually rolled out over the course of the next few weeks and will allow users to choose from “Beats,” “Bounce,” and “TV Show” sounds. Moving on to face filters, Instagram has announced three new festive filters. These include a new frosted glass effect, the ability to add an artificial holiday makeup look, and a filter with gold and silver balloons which also includes digital confetti. In addition to all of this, Instagram is also releasing a wide range of Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa-themed stickers. Among these are penguin stickers, snowflakes, ice skates, winter clothing and even a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows. The social network has also confirmed it will be making the search for the right emoji and sticker for Instagram Stories much easier by introducing text-based search, though limited to English for the time being. However, it’s likely that other languages will receive support for the functionality in the future.
The festive update comes shortly after the company introduced the ability to follow hashtags and user Stories highlights, as well the new Remix feature for direct messaging. Future updates, on the other hand, could see direct messages spun off into a standalone Direct app, similar to Facebook’s Messenger offering, while the ability to re-post other users’ photos and videos on Instagram is also rumored. Not only this, but the social network is also expected to add support for GIFs in Stories with a future update. The latest festive additions and Superzoom sound effects will roll out to both Android and iOS users in the near future as part of Instagram version 26.
