Our stay of the week – Caro Hotel, Valencia

Converted from a 19th-century marquis’ palace, the five-star Caro Hotel is a gorgeous abode with intriguing interiors in one of Valencia’s oldest neighbourhoods. Sleek, elegant and contemporary in style, it tastefully meshes old and new, with original stone features, monochrome hues, exposed brick walls and clean angular lines all tucked away behind a polished townhouse facade.

Though its minimalist style is perhaps best found in the lobby, outdoor splash pool area and dining spaces, the 26 individually-designed rooms don’t fail to follow suit – in many you’ll find statement-making stone walls, fireplaces and elegant furnishings.

Sucede, the hotel restaurant, is managed by former elBulli chef and Michelin star recipient Miguel Ángel Mayor, and offers set and tasting menus with which to tantalise your taste buds. A bar is on hand with a quiet terrace, where you can enjoy a cocktail al fresco (good weather permitting, of course).

Sublime interiors are not all this hotel can boast about: its convenient location allows you to lose yourself in Valencia’s beautiful heart and walk to some of the old town’s most historic sights, including the Valencia Cathedral, Plaza de la Virgen and the medieval market. Upon your return to your stunning hotel, don’t miss a chance at a soak in the outdoor pool, open year-round.
