Google might be adding threaded conversations to Allo in a future app update according to pieces of code found in the APK for the most recent version of the application, which is currently version 25. While there is evidence of this potentially showing up in a future version of Allo there is no guarantee just yet that threaded conversations will actually be implemented. That said, according to the details found in the code of the APK, Google seems to be working on a “reply” action for an upcoming floating context menu, which is what suggests the possibility of threaded conversations getting worked into the app down the line.
If Google does add threaded conversations at some point, this might make chats a whole lot easier when there is more than one person in the chat, as you can pick a specific message from someone in the group chat and reply to it instead of simply having to place your message at the bottom of the list. This will certainly make it much easier for everyone to be aware who or what you’re reply is referring to. On the other hand this could be useful for solo person chats too. If for example, the person you’re talking to sends a few messages in a row but all could warrant separate responses, threaded conversations could allow you to reply specifically to one of those messages and then follow that up by replying to the others in the same manner.
In addition to the potential of threaded messages, there is at least one new thing that has been integrated into Allo with this latest version of the app. It’s now possible to have audio messages transcribed automatically whenever one pops up in one of your chats. While it is automatic so you don’t have to do anything besides open up the chat, not everyone will want the transcriptions to happen automatically, and Google knows this which is why there is also an option to toggle this feature off. Simply head into the settings menu and then into the chat section of the settings, and there will be a toggle to disable voice transcripts.
