The alleged Sony Xperia XZ2 was recently spotted in a leaked photo, presenting a tall 18:9 aspect ratio and a full-screen design with very thin bezels around the display. As usual in terms of leaked images – especially ones that pop up early – there’s no guarantee that the device shown in the picture is the actual Sony Xperia XZ2 but it may very well be a sneak preview of the Japanese OEM’s upcoming smartphone design language ‘Mirai’ which is meant to replace the aging OmniBalance aesthetic next year.
According to the source of the image, the upcoming Sony Xperia XZ2 will boast a screen-to-body ratio of more than 90 percent, and sure enough, the device seen in the leaked image does seem to feature such a bezel-free look. Aside from the top bezel which is a little bit thicker in order to accommodate a loudspeaker, front-facing camera, and a sensor array, the device presents very thin bottom and side bezels, leaving no room for front-facing physical buttons or a fingerprint scanner, the latter of which appears to have been embedded into an indentation on the right edge. The same edge also seems to accommodate a volume rocker and what could be a dedicated camera shutter button judging by its lower placement. Lastly, the device adopts the color blue, and interestingly enough, Sony did recently mention that this particular hue has grown in popularity among people who purchase Xperia-branded Android devices.
The Sony Xperia XZ2 is currently linked with the model number H8216 which was previously leaked along with a list of hardware specifications which suggested the device will feature a 5.5-inch display with a Full HD resolution and use the Snapdragon 845 chipset from Qualcomm, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board memory. The front panel should feature a 13-megapixel camera, and the back panel which remains unseen in the newly leaked image is rumored to accommodate two 12-megapixel sensors. Lastly, the Sony Xperia XZ2 will reportedly rely on a 3,130mAh battery with Quick Charge capabilities, and all of its components could be wrapped in a body weighing 156 grams and measuring only 7.4-millimeters in thickness. Though no official announcements have been made on the matter, the Sony Xperia XZ2 is expected to be unveiled at MWC 2018 in late February.
