Android 8.0 Oreo Hitting Moto X4 Soon, Changelog Leaks

Android 8.0 Oreo will soon be hitting Motorola’s Moto X4 in the form of an over-the-air update, with its changelog leaking online earlier today, having originally been obtained by TechDroider. According to the Lenovo-owned company’s release notes, the next OTA package for the Moto X4 will debut the latest major iteration of Google’s operating system and the December security patch. The changelog itself only appears to pertain to the regular Moto X4, whereas the Moto X4 Android One is supported separately of this particular model. The existence of what appear to be finalized release notes suggests the launch of Android 8.0 Oreo for the Moto X4 is imminent and the phone maker is likely to share more details on the matter in the coming days.

Motorola has a somewhat inconsistent track record when it comes to updating its contemporary devices but has been working to improve this aspect of its operations, with the Moto X4 being set to become one of the first devices to make a jump to Android 8.0 Oreo. Likewise, the handset will also run Android P before most of its alternatives, largely thanks to Motorola’s collaboration with Google that resulted in the Moto X4 launching as part of the Android One initiative. Google’s has been promoting its pure Android program in a more aggressive manner in recent times but has only now started a more serious push in the West, with Motorola’s mid-ranger being one of the most attractive Android One devices stateside consumers can presently purchase.

The jump to Android 8.0 Oreo will allow the Moto X4 to take advantage of a variety of new features like notification dots, full-fledged picture-in-picture mode, and a robust system for granular control of notifications. Minor user interface tweaks and performance optimizations are also part of the package, as are a built-in autofill framework, new emoji, improved boot speeds, and enhanced Instant Apps support, with this particular functionality now being enabled by default. Google just recently wrapped up the development of Android 8.1 Oreo that was pushed to all four Pixel smartphones and eligible Nexus-branded devices, though the majority of third-party handsets and tablets are likely to circumvent this incremental OS upgrade.
