The main culprit of cavities in your mouth isn’t sugar!

Our mouth is full of different kinds of microbes. They live in our tongue, lips, and gums and no matter how much you brush your teeth they will still be there. These microbes create cavities in your mouth but not all of them are harmful.

Most of these microbes are beneficial to you. The microbes in our mouth change in time as a result of some factors such as our partner etc.

The core microbiome

Most of us have around 150 different types of microbes including the beneficial ones. The good microbes protect us from yeast infection and many other conditions. In order to have the right balance of good and bad microbes we need to take a proper care of our teeth and this includes a good oral hygiene. These microbes are known as the core microbiome.

About plaque

The microbes on our teeth form a biofilm. These microbes stick to a certain surface and they need to communicate with each other. They swap genetic material and molecular signals and create a circulatory system that disturbs the nutrients and the water. These microbes must eat and take their energy from sugars while releasing waste products and acid at the same time.

How cavities are formed

The acid that is produced by these microbes pulls out minerals from the teeth and in this way cavities are created. If you have the plaque removed and avoid eating sugars your teeth will recover. But, if you continue to eat sugar the cavities in your mouth will even become more.

Treatments and prevention of cavities

  • Oil pulling

This method is also known as oral detoxification and recently it has been widely used. It will remove the toxins from your mouth, protect your teeth from decay and it will deliver nutrients to your teeth. Swish 2 tbsp. of oil in your mouth for 20 minutes right after you have come out of bed. You can use coconut oil and add a drop of clove oil.

  • Improve nutrition

Eat more foods rich in phosphorus, magnesium, calcium such as green leafy vegetable and fish, eggs, and meat.

  • Use a mineralizing toothpaste

This will give your teeth the minerals they have lost and it will strengthen your teeth and make them more resistant to cavities. Take a proper care of your teeth and you will avoid these problems.
