OnePlus confirmed earlier this month that it would officially debut its newest flagship smartphone on November 16. And sure enough, that’s exactly what happened.
Today OnePlus took the wraps off the OnePlus 5T. As expected, it’s a high-end smartphone with plenty of worthwhile specifications, all with the goal of not breaking the customer’s bank to make it their daily driver.
As far as specifications go, the OnePlus 5T boasts a 6.01-inch 1080p HD Optic AMOLED display, an aspect ratio of 18:9 (matching other flagship Android phones), and a feature called “Sunlight Display” which will automatically adjust the screen to harsh light to “facilitate a great viewing experience.” Like the OnePlus 5 before it, the OnePlus 5T has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor under its hood.
There are two variants of the OnePlus 5T, one with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of built-in storage and one that boasts 8GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage, just like the OnePlus 5 from last year. It’s crafted from anodized aluminum, there is a fingerprint reader on the back of the device that can unlock the phone in 0.2 seconds, and it’s running Android 7.1.1 Nougat underneath OnePlus’s proprietary OxygenOS user interface.
Around back, there’s a 16MP main camera (IMX398) with an aperture of f/1.7 and a secondary rear 20MP camera (IMX376k) with an aperture of f/1.7. The former camera is the same one that’s on the OnePlus 5 but the latter camera is different, ditching a telephoto lens for a focus on low light performance. They’re outfitted with dual LED flash, and the OnePlus 5T can record 4K video at up to 30fps. There’s also a 16MP front-facing camera (IMX371) with an aperture of f/2.0.
The ports are what you’d expect at this point: a USB Type-C port for charging and a 3.5mm headphone jack. The battery measures in at 3300mAh and supports OnePlus’s quick charge capability called Dash Charge, which the company says a “half-hour charge gives the OnePlus 5T enough power for the day.”
Finally, the OnePlus 5T in both the 64GB/128GB Midnight Black variants will go up for sale on November 21 in the United States and Europe. Pricing will be set at USD $499 / EUR 499 / GBP 449 / INR 32,999 for the 6GB/64GB model and USD $559 / EUR 559 / GBP 499/ INR 37,999
