Video-sharing service Vimeo has launched a new camera designed primarily for live streamers, called the Mevo Plus, in addition to dropping the price of the first-generation Mevo camera down to $299. The latest model has a price tag of $499 and offers a variety of features such as Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11ac connectivity, as well as 2X2 MIMO antennas for improved transfer rates, all while delivering 4K video recording and 1080p live streaming capabilities and being compatible with contemporary Android smartphones.
The new Vimeo Mevo Plus is backed by an Ambarella A9SE system-on-chip, not unlike the original model, and a Sony 4K sensor with a resolution of 12.4 megapixels capable of recording 4K, 1080p, and 720p videos at 30 frames per second, the company said. The camera supports video streaming over Wi-Fi and 4G LTE when connected to a smartphone, or via Ethernet through the optional Mevo Boost accessory. The lens of the device has an aperture of f/2.8 and a 3-millimeter focal length, as well as a diagonal field of view of 150 degrees and five FoV options including flat, narrow, normal, wide, and fisheye, thus being suitable for a broad range of different tasks. The device is powered by a 1,200mAh battery rated for up to one hour of usage on a single charge, however, the aforementioned Mevo Boost accessory can add up to ten hours of use thanks to its integrated 11,800mAh battery. Regarding storage options, the Mevo Plus camera is bundled together with a 16GB microSD card offering write speeds of 10MB/s and read speeds of 40MB/s and can support larger cards as well. The entire package measures 50 x 50 x 63mm in size and weighs in at 142g.
Apart from the product itself, prospective buyers can acquire the Mevo Plus Pro Bundle for $799, which includes the camera, a stand, Mevo Boost accessory, and a carrying case, all of which would normally amount to a total cost of $899 when purchased separately. As of this writing, the Mevo Plus is available only in black with red accents, and it’s unclear whether the new model will mimic the first-generation offering and launch in white as well.
