Rumor: HTC U11 Plus To Sport 6-inch WQHD+ Display

The specifications of the HTC U11 Plus, a rumored upcoming handset from the Taiwanese electronics firm, has been detailed in a tweet by Evan Blass. According to the rumor, the device will be powered by the Snapdragon 835 chipset from Qualcomm, which is comprised of an octa-core Kryo 280 CPU with a maximum frequency of 2.45GHz and the Adreno 540 GPU. A modem included with the SoC supports Category 16 LTE downlink, which means that the devices equipped with the chipset can attain maximum download speeds of 1Gbps. To reach the top data speed, the modem takes advantage of cellular technologies like 4x carrier aggregation and 256-QAM data modulation. The leak also claims that there will be at least two hardware variants of the handset, one of which includes 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage while the other variant contains 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal flash storage. The internal storage in both variants of the HTC U11 Plus can be expanded using a microSDXC card.

The HTC U11 Plus is reported to sport a 6-inch IPS display with a WQHD+ resolution, a pixel density of 538ppi, and an aspect ratio of 18:9. Images submitted by the manufacturer to the Chinese telecommunications regulator TENAA show that the fingerprint scanner of the U11 will be placed at the back directly below the single rear camera. The leak states that rear shooter is equipped with a 12-megapixel sensor with an aperture size of f/1.7, and a dual-LED flash is placed beside it. The front-facing camera, on the other hand, comes with an 8-megapixel sensor. The device is rumored to sport IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. Inside the smartphone is a 3,930mAh battery and the handset will also support Quick Charge 3.0 for fast top-ups, according to Blass’ tweet.

The HTC U11 Plus is expected to include both the Edge Sense and Boomsound features. Edge Sense detects presses made by the user by utilizing the pressure sensors located at the sides of the handset. The presses made by the user can be used to open certain applications or initiate specific actions. Boomsound is also reported to be incorporated into the handset. Recent implementations of the feature use the earpiece and the bottom-facing speaker to deliver improved audio quality, and it seems that the same design will be utilized for the HTC U11 Plus due to the smartphone’s lack of front-facing speakers. More details about the device will likely be available within the next few weeks.
