The recently announced Nubia Z17S Android flagship ships with native support for DTS Headphone:X, an audio technology designed for immersive, three-dimensional listening experiences that are both portable and reliable, the Xperi Corporation-owned audio company announced earlier this week. The solution encompasses six pairs of headphones tuned by the Calabasas, California-based firm, two of which were designed specifically to work in conjunction with the Nubia Z17S. The same technology previously featured in the likes of the ASUS ZenFone 3 Ultra, Huawei Nova, and the Acer Liquid Jade 2, as well as the HP Omen X gaming desktop computer.
Xperi described the latest move from its subsidiary as yet another step in the company’s efforts to expand its global market presence and continue partnering with original equipment manufacturers seeking to deliver premium devices which can benefit from a premium-grade audio platform like the DTS Headphone:X. DTS announced its partnership with Nubia on Thursday, the same day on which the Nubia Z17S officially started retailing in China. It’s currently unclear whether the Android flagship is eventually meant to be released outside of Nubia’s home country as the firm has yet to indicate that it’s planning to expand its availability. DTS itself will likely continue pursuing new partnership opportunities that would allow its audio technology to make its way to more devices, as suggested by Xperi China General Manager Christopher Lang.
The Nubia Z17S features a 5.73-inch display panel with an FHD+ resolution of 2,080 by 1,040 pixels amounting to a tall aspect ratio of 18:9, or 2:1. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC and comes in two variants, with the less capable one featuring 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal flash memory. The ultra-premium model boasts double the storage space and 8GB of RAM, with neither of the two offering a microSD card slot, although both come with Dual-SIM capabilities. A 3,100mAh battery is also part of the package and isn’t removable, with the slim top bezel of the phone housing a dual-camera setup entailing two 5-megapixel sensors with an aperture of f/2.2. The rear panel of the Nubia Z17S features another two-sensor setup with a 12-megapixel (f/1.8) module and a 23-megapixel (f/2.0) one accompanied by a dual-tone flash and PDAF support.
