New Nokia Android Smartphone Coming To India On October 31

A new Nokia-branded Android smartphone is set to be launched in India next Tuesday, with HMD Global now sending out invites for its October 31st event in the South Asian country. The Finnish phone company just unveiled the Nokia 7 last week, with that device being the most likely candidate for a release in India. Alternatively, the firm may also be preparing to announce the entry-level Nokia 2 whose existence has yet to be officially confirmed despite the fact that the phone itself is apparently close to a commercial debut and has even been prematurely listed by one distributor earlier this month.

HMD referred to its upcoming product event as “the next Milestone for Nokia phones” but didn’t elaborate on the matter, with the excited tone of its press invite being more indicative of a non-budget device. Unlike many other phone vendors, HMD’s short time in the industry already saw it establish a pattern of holding exclusive launch events for its entry-level offerings, though the company didn’t go as far as to call such devices major milestones in its product efforts for the time being. Due to that state of affairs, the Nokia 7 remains the most likely star of the Tuesday event and would fall in line with HMD’s previous release patterns entailing global launches followed by more localized ones in India. The company already debuted the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6, and the Nokia 8 in India in the same manner and will presumably follow suit with the Nokia 7.

The smartphone itself is a mid-range offering that’s more capable and versatile than HMD’s previous products in this price segment, boasting a 5.2-inch LCD panel with a resolution of 1,920 by 1,080 pixels and being powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 630 SoC and at least 4GB of RAM, with a more premium model of the handset featuring 6GB of RAM. Both variants come with 64GB of internal flash memory expandable via a microSD card by up to 256GB, with users being able to ditch microSD support in favor of a second Nano SIM card. The Nokia 7 also sports a Carl Zeiss-made 16-megapixel (f/1.8) camera setup which is said to be rather capable for a mid-range phone, in addition to shipping with a 5-megapixel (f/2.0) secondary sensor and Android 7.1.1 Nougat alongside the promise of an Android 8.0 Oreo update in the near future. The Nokia 7 will soon start selling in China, being available in Gloss Black and Matt White, with prices starting at approximately $375 for the model with 4GB of RAM and going up to around $405 for the more powerful version of the Android mid-ranger.
