Mysterious 360-Branded Handset Gets Certified In China

A new device from relatively the relatively unknown manufacturer, Qihoo 360, has just hit China’s TENAA regulatory site with new photos in tow. Unfortunately, there is no other information provided alongside the listing and there has been no rumor or speculation about any such device leading up to the listing. Since there have been no prior leaks bearing this particular device’s model number – listed at the TENAA as model 1713-A01 – there’s not a whole lot to be said about what tier the device falls into or what specs it will bring to the table. Having said that, the overall aesthetics of the device and some of its more obvious features can be examined to some degree.

Beginning at the front-facing side of the 360-branded 1713-A01, the screen appears to stretch nearly to the edge on either the right or left, while the bezels along the top and bottom appear proportionally small. It looks as though 360 is going for a more bezel-free design here. Aside from the display, capacitive buttons are clearly visible along the lower bezel and both a camera and speaker are embedded along the top. No other sensors are clearly visible within the TENAA images, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t there. Flipping to the right-hand edge of the device reveals both a power button and volume rocker, while the opposing side features a pin-hole for access to what could only be either a SIM card or microSD card drawer – or a drawer for housing both. With no other specs to go off of, the slot could be designated for any of those. Meanwhile, turning the device completely over reveals the 360 branding along the bottom half of the device and a camera set-up at the top-left corner. As to the camera itself, there is only one visible sensor and that appears coupled with a dual-LED flash in a horizontal orientation to the right. Finally, a fingerprint sensor has been placed near the center of the back – as has become common with their placement across most OEMs.

This is one device that has apparently come out of nowhere, so it may be a good idea not to speculate too much about internals at this point. Having said that, Qihoo 360 is mostly known for its mid-range devices and this new listing most likely follows that trend. It’s also extremely likely to be running some form of Android. That could ultimately turn out to be incorrect, but it follows from the fact that this device has not had any leaks and has hit the regulating agency without so much as a hint about an announcement – which might be expected for a flagship device.
