Amazon on Wednesday introduced its latest Internet of Things offerings including the Amazon Cloud Cam, a home security camera with two-way audio, 1080p recording capabilities, and support for the company’s artificial intelligence assistant Alexa. The device also boasts night vision and can automatically deliver activity clips every 24 hours via the Amazon Cloud Cam app that will soon be available for download on Android devices.
The newly announced camera starts at $119.99 and is already available for pre-orders from Amazon, being set to start shipping on November 8th which is also its official release date. Alternatively, you’re able to buy two units for $199.99 by using the promo code “2CLOUDCAM” during checkout or purchase three cameras for $289.99 with the “3CLOUDCAM” coupon. Amazon described this offer as being time-limited but didn’t elaborate on the matter, though it’s possible that its quantity discounts are only meant for pre-orders and will be pulled by the time the Amazon Cloud Cam is released. The camera itself is an integral part of Amazon Key, an in-home delivery service which the company also announced earlier today. Consumers will soon be able to purchase the In-Home Kit that includes the Amazon Cloud Cam and one compatible smart lock, the e-commerce firm revealed, adding that the upcoming bundle will start at $249.99. Apart from Alexa, the security camera was also designed to work with the Echo Show smart speaker, being able to display its feed on the IoT gadget in addition to casting it to your smartphone or tablet. Amazon is emphasizing this compatibility by offering a bundle containing the Echo Show and Cloud Cam for $299.98. Amazon Fire TV support is also part of the package, as are intelligent motion and sound alerts.
The last 24 hours of clips recorded by the Cloud Cam are always stored by Amazon Web Services free of charge, though the tech giant is also offering optional subscriptions for customers who’d like to keep more in-depth records about any activity in their homes. The Basic subscription costs $6.99 per month or $69 a year and will net you a week’s worth of activity clips for a maximum of three Cloud Cam units. For $9.99 a month or an annual fee of $99, you’ll be able to double that record-keeping period with up to five cameras. Finally, 30 days of motion detection records and support for 10 cameras will set you back $19.99 per month or $199 on a yearly basis. Month-long trials for all three subscriptions are also offered to customers, Amazon confirmed.
