Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 and 630 processors now official

Qualcomm today has officially announced a pair of new chipsets that will join the company’s ranks.

The first of the pair is the Snapdragon 660. This is the replacement for the Snapdragon 653, and it brings with it plenty of improvements. The new chip uses the 14nm FinFET process, and there’s an X12 LTE modem on board that can support download speeds up to 600Mbps.

The SD660 boasts 14-bit Spectra 160 ISP that will support cameras with a dual 16MP+16MP setup, that can take up to 24-megapixel photos, and can record 4K video at 30fps. On top of all that, the 660 also offers support for Bluetooth 5 and Quick Charge 4, the latter of which can get you up to 50 percent battery life in just 15 minutes of charging.

Finally, the SD660 is an octa-core Kryo 260 CPU, which, according to Qualcomm, offers a boost of 20 percent in the performance category versus the previous chipset. There’s an Adreno 512 GPU on board as well, which sees a 30 percent performance boost over the Adreno 510 GPU. It also supports up to 8GB of RAM for good measure.

As for the Snapdragon 630, it shares many features with the 660, including the aforementioned X12 LTE modem, Bluetooth 5 support, as well as Quick Charge 4 support. It’s built upon the 14nm FinFET process, too. The SD630 supports dual cameras of the 13MP+13MP variety, and there’s an octa-core processor and Adreno 508 GPU.

The SD660 is currently available for manufacturers, but the SD630 won’t be shipping out until the end of May.
