A History of the Reading Brand
Reading has been a trusted American automotive brand for more than 60 years. As the American trucking industry has changed, so too, have the needs of its consumers. Four years after the Reading brand was established, in 1959, a new line of utility bodies was unveiled to fit the Ford 1960 chassis. Americans were going to work, and Reading was already ahead of the game, working tirelessly to design truck bodies that responded to economic needs. It wasn’t long before the brand started designing custom panel bodies for other labor-intensive industries like the dairy industry, starting in 1962, and construction bodies in 1964 for mobile maintenance.
How Reading Became a Trusted American Brand
As the Ford brand saturated the American economy, Reading recognized the importance of its presence, and developed a new line of service bodies and truck accessories that fit the Ford Courier, Chevy Luv, Datsun, and Toyota half-ton trucks. By 1981, Reading had developed the very first fully-aluminum truck body of its kind. Innovation continued into the 1990’s, and Reading took the truck market by storm when it rolled out the very first keyless locking system in 1995, paving the way for today’s mart technology.
With the onset of the new millennium, Reading evolved once more by changing its official name from Reading Body Works Inc. to Reading Truck Body Inc. In 2006, The Reading Group was established and Reading Fleet Services was born, providing complete product and logistic services to industry experts and carriers.
