Get rid of the mucus and phlegm in your throat and chest!

The phlegm is a liquid produced by the mucous membranes in humans. This sticky discharge can be a little gross, but it has a key role in the immune system of our bodies, such as fighting severe colds and infections. When this discharge is accumulated in our chest and throat, our body tries to eject it through coughing. But too much of this discharge can cause problems.

An increased amount of phlegm in the lungs may cause various problems such as weakness, runny nose, fever, difficulty breathing, and persistent cough. If the body doesn’t eject it, it might block the bronchial tubes and this needs medical attention. Fortunately, there are natural remedies that can prevent this.

Lemon and honey

Both, honey and the lemon, have antibacterial and antifungal properties, so a mixture of these two can reduce the irritation in your respiratory tract. And the vitamin C in the lemon will also boost your immune system.

Ingredients

  • Lemon juice (2 tbsp.)
  • Organic honey (1 tbsp.)

Preparation

Mix well the ingredients and drink the mixture three times per day.

Ginger

The ginger also has antibacterial properties. It will stimulate the ejection of the phlegm. You need to eat 3 to 4 slices of ginger per day or you can also drink ginger tea. Here is how you can prepare the tea.

Ingredients

  • Black peppercorns (1 tsp.)
  • Honey (1 tsp.)
  • Water (2 cups)
  • Ginger (6-7 slices)

Preparation

Boil the water. When it reaches boiling point add the peppercorn and the ginger. Cover it and lower the heat. Let it simmer for six to eight minutes. Then remove it and let it cool down. Strain the mixture and put the honey in it. Drink this tea 2 to 3 cups per day and you will feel the relief.

Apple cider vinegar

It is known for its antibacterial properties. It can even reduce the production of the phlegm and keep the healthy pH balance of the body. A tbsp. of apple vinegar in a glass of water will help you reduce the phlegm. You can also relieve the pain from a sore throat if you gargle it.

Turmeric

The curcumin, which is a powerful ingredient of the turmeric, has antibacterial properties and here is how you can use it for respiratory infections

Ingredients

  • Warm water (1 glass)
  • Salt (1 tsp.)
  • Turmeric (1 tsp.)

Preparation

In the warm water add the turmeric and mix it well then, add the salt and mix. Gargle this 3 to 4 times per day for a few minutes. It will help you to decrease the amount of phlegm in your chest.

Steaming

Steaming will help you to reduce the congestion of your chest and it will loosen up the mucus. You can even add some herbs to the water and you will get even greater results.

Ingredients

  • Boiling water (4-5 cups)
  • Thyme (1/2 tsp.)
  • Dry rosemary (1/2 tsp.)

Preparation

Add the thyme and the rosemary into boiling water. Lean your head over the bowl and cover yourself with a towel. Breath in there for 10 minutes. Repeat this 3 to 4 times a day.

Blow your nose regularly, don’t eat or drink cold food and drinks, and stop smoking. You may also use a humidifier at you home to control the production of the phlegm and when you have it in your throat try not to swallow it, just spit it out.
