Galaxy S8 Plus Prototypes With Dual Camera Setup Leak Online

A video and two images depicting several Galaxy S8 Plus prototypes with dual camera setups have surfaced online, seemingly corroborating older reports that Samsung was previously considering integrating two main lenses into the rear plate of its latest flagship smartphone. Those reports initially started appearing in late August but were quickly dismissed by numerous industry insiders who ultimately ended up being correct seeing how both the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus were announced with a single-lens main camera setup. Regardless, images and a video depicting several Galaxy S8 Plus prototypes boasting a dual camera setup can be seen below, and the devices shown in them aren’t particularly eye-catching compared to how the official handset looks like.

Regardless, previous reports suggested Samsung’s recently announced flagship duo may be the last one in a while to feature a single-lens setup, as the South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer is reportedly looking to equip its future premium handsets with a dual camera setup like many of its competitors are already doing. Compared to traditional camera systems, a dual camera setup allows original equipment manufacturers to improve on the imaging capabilities of their existing devices without having to design a smartphone that features a large camera bump, which is why many phone makers like LG and Huawei are now opting to utilize this technology. With that in mind, the Samsung may finally commercialize a dual camera setup with the upcoming Galaxy Note 8 that’s expected to hit the market in the second half of the year, presumably in late summer.

Regarding the company’s latest pair of flagships, while both feature a single-lens main camera setup, the Galaxy S8 boasts the Samsung-made SOCELL S5K2L2 sensor, while its larger counterpart is equipped with Sony’s new IMX333 sensor. As neither sensor is yet available on the market in any other device, it remains to be seen to what degree will they improve on the image-taking capabilities of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge, both of which are still considered as one of the best camera smartphones around. Regardless, more information on the matter is bound to follow soon as the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus will launch worldwide in less than three weeks, on April 21.
