Google Tango and Lumin will spice up museum tours

Augmented reality is one of the best ways to expand an experience, and for museums, where information is key, it’s a perfect pairing.

Google has just announced that it will be bringing Tango, its AR-focused endeavor, to museums to help enrich the experience for visitors. Google will also be using what is called Lumin, which was developed by the Detroit Institute of Arts and GuidiGO.

When you visit the Detroit Institute of Arts, you can ask the person at the front desk for a Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, which will give you the full Tango and Lumin experience as you walk around.

Visitors to the DIA will be able to peer into a mummy’s sarcophagus, for instance, as well as other detail-rich situations.

The Tango-enriched experience is currently only available at the DIA, but Google says it will be expanding the functionality to other museums in the future.
